For nearly two years, our own Carolyn Piguet has been a TV star! Well, at least in our local area, she’s been offering cooking tips, recipes, and information about her latest adventures on the local Tulsa CBS affiliate, KOTV “News on 6.”
We asked to share about her experiences and give a little bit of a behind-the-scenes look at her segments, which air at 4 p.m. on the second Monday of each month.
Here’s what Carolyn had to say:
All this started about two years ago in November. I got a call and they asked me if I would like to be on TV. The folks at News on 6 are always so inclusive. It feels like a real family! I went on to talk about the Mother Road Market and it turned into something where I could talk about our leadership program launch, look at different products, etc.
Now when I go on, I do a demonstration of a different recipe but also can talk about many other things like what I’m up to with catering, the restaurant coming up, or local food. I love sharing about local vendors and the community! People will see me and tell me that they saw me on TV. This gives me a huge outreach.
People sometimes ask me what all goes into doing the segments. Usually, the program director calls me about three weeks before the segment to discuss what is needed and what I will be making. It’s only a three-minute segment so I have to do a lot of preparing ahead of time to show the steps. I usually choose a somewhat simple recipe that is also seasonal. They do a great job getting the segment set up with graphics and everything I need.
Of course with COVID, everything changed. I learned how to video myself at home in my own kitchen and that’s where you saw me doing the segment. It was cool being able to video in my own kitchen. I realized that once I learned it, I could do it for my own stuff like social media. I am now able to keep all the things we’re doing around here highlighted with these skills.
In the future, I look forward to being able to highlight more people and the community! I also want to expand my skills and maybe even do my own little program with local vendors and farmers highlighting what they do. I look forward to bringing even more people into the process and making it more personal as we grow!
