The next class at Piguet’s Prime Time will incorporate cooking and another art form, cursive writing. What used to be the most common form of communication has become a lost art, our founder, Carolyn Piguet, believes.
Cooking with Cursive will be 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 10, at the restaurant. There will be a signup form we will share here on the website when it is ready. This class is designed for students aged 8 through 12.
“When I was teaching and in school myself, we spent a lot of time on penmanship,” she said. In her latter years of teaching, Carolyn really started to notice that two things were happening: students were using keyboards so much that they did not have quality penmanship, and if messages were written in cursive, the students often couldn’t read them.
For someone who enjoys cursive writing the same way some adults enjoy relaxing with adult coloring books, the idea of losing the art of cursive writing is a dismay.
“Many of our founding documents, like the Declaration of Independence, are written in cursive,” she said. “And so are many family recipes.”
That’s where the cooking part comes in!
During this class, participants will be making a craft with their names written in cursive and also make several simple recipes from recipe cards.
“I’ve contacted several people in the community with beautiful handwriting, and they’ve agreed to help,” Carolyn tells us.
We’re excited about this next class and hope that your kids will join us!
