New classes starting soon!

As many of you know, I’m a recently retired teacher. I loved being in the classroom and helping students discover and develop their love for agriculture. I’m really enjoying retirement, but I also still love teaching!

I’ve also been asked many times to teach adults how to do special meals or to offer various cooking-related classes. Well, it’s finally here! This summer, I will be offering a series of kids cooking classes and also a couple of single classes for adults. The exact times and other details will be announced as the time gets closer but I just couldn’t wait to share what details we have figured out now!

Cooking Classes with childrenKids Culinary Classes

This will be a seven-week program in June and July. Students will learn a variety of topics, including:

  • Nutrition-Learning about how to eat a balanced, healthy diet.
  • Choosing recipes-How to look at recipes and decide which ones to choose.
  • Making menus-Determining how to create entire menus for a family from various recipes.
  • The supermarket-We will be taking a field trip to the supermarket to show them around and letting them choose food.
  • Setting the table-Culinary lessons are more than just making the food! Students will learn how to properly set a tablescape.
  • Cleaning up-Participants will learn how to clean up after cooking and serving.
  • “Cook’s Chatter”-This will include a glossary of cooking terms, equipment, etc.

Of course, throughout the seven weeks, we will be talking about local food including where to get it, what’s in season, etc.!
