Thankful for the Love of the Soil

A family rooted in agriculture

For this month’s blog, we asked our owner, Carolyn Piguet, to reflect on her long-time heritage in agriculture and cooking from the heart. We thought it was fitting, considering how many families are sitting down at a Thanksgiving meal throughout the month, especially on the actual Thanksgiving Day! We are so thankful for the customers who chose to share their festivities with us by ordering Thanksgiving meals from our restaurant.

Now, let’s hear from Carolyn!

My agricultural story began before my grandparents on my mother’s side. Those individuals were the foundational pillars of where my journey has led me.
My grandparents on my mother’s side were Henry and Cora (Bredal) Yost- very foundational farmers. My grandparents worked very hard and put every penny earned toward their children and set them on a path to be farmers and strong agriculturalists.

That passion of pride in producing crops and making food is a gift to me from my ancestors.
My grandparents had six children, including my mother, Agnes. They gave each of their children farm ground to get their start in agriculture. That land has stayed in the families and has been passed down through three generations so far.

My heritage is a “love of the soil.” This inscription is on the grave monument of Delbert and Agnes Fisher – my parents. That phrase is the foundation of my life. From my adolescent days of helping my mother make meals to take to the field where my Daddy was working, or walking over 80 acres picking up tumbleweeds and clearing wheat fields, to running tractors, swathers, combines, grain trucks, and wagons, to running a single person farm.

We now have the restaurant and catering business on our land. I am a fifth-generation agriculturist carrying on the passion of production agriculture far into the 21st century. Although technology has elevated the techniques and procedures, the passion is still very, very strong! It is an inbred fondness from family connections and contributions, to my education, love and investment into my farm to fork interest.

My siblings, my sister Marilyn, and brother, Dennis, also farm and raise cattle. My immediate family of my Piguet Family is made up of my daughter, Kelli, who operates a cow/calf operation, and my son Casey, who also runs a cow and calf operation. So truly, our heritage is a “Love of the Soil.”

That love shines through with all of the things done at Piguet’s Prime Time.
